18 Oct Cybercriminals are Actively Using Text Message Scams to Access Your Private Information
Cybercriminals are actively using text message scams to access your private information.
There has been a recent increase in phishing text messages in Australia. Targets are receiving texts about deliveries that then prompt the end user to tap on a link or download an app to organise a time for delivery. With online shopping becoming increasingly popular, it is important to be aware and protect yourself from such scams.
How to protect yourself:
· Never click links from unfamiliar numbers and delete the message immediately
· Do not install apps that you’re not familiar with
· If you are expecting a parcel, check with the delivery company directly – do not rely on a link from an unknown phone number
· If you have clicked on any links from this sort of message, or provided any login details, change that password right away (and for any other account that uses the same password)
· If you’ve downloaded a strange app, remove it (this is how they can steal personal information including banking passwords)
